What is a transaction ID?

Every crypto transaction has a unique transaction ID. Using a block explorer, you can look up information about any transaction if you have the transaction ID.

You can think of a transaction ID like a receipt for blockchain transactions. It allows you to find out the status of a crypto transaction.

The information you can view when looking up a transaction ID on a block explorer depends on the type of crypto and the block explorer you are using. You will usually be able to see information like transaction confirmations, the sending and receiving address, the amount of crypto sent, transaction fees, and the date and time when the transaction was created and confirmed.

Depending on the asset, transaction IDs can be formatted differently. They are commonly a long string of letters and numbers.
