How do I split BCH/BSV held on another wallet?
Download Exodus wallet today to take full control of your BSV and over 100 other assets.
If you have been holding Bitcoin Cash on a Ledger, Trezor, BitPay, Bitcoin.com or another wallet that does not support BSV, you can use Exodus to safely split your BCH and BSV coins.
If you held Bitcoin Cash before November 15, 2018, and you did not send your BCH out of your wallet after this date, you may be entitled to claim Bitcoin SV (BSV).
DISCLAIMER: The BCH and BSV chains did not implement replay protection for this fork. BCH transactions may or may not broadcast on both chains. Exodus has no control over this. For this reason, we cannot guarantee that claiming BSV in Exodus will be successful.
Successful claims thus far have been achieved by sending unspilt BCH to Exodus in one transaction. Sending BCH in multiple back-to-back transactions has resulted in transactions only broadcasting on the BCH chain and not the BSV chain. In these cases, BCH moved to Exodus while BSV remained in the original BCH address.
If you currently use Exodus, please make sure you upgrade to the latest wallet release to ensure a smooth experience in claiming your BSV. Exodus has created a solution to add replay protection and protect your funds, but you must upgrade to the latest version!
If you do not already have Exodus installed on your desktop, you can install Exodus on Mac, Windows or Linux by downloading the latest version from https://www.exodus.io/download/
After installing Exodus and taking note of your 12-word phrase, you are ready to start claiming your BSV.
You can follow the below steps to claim your coins:
- Send BCH to Exodus
Help menu in the bottom left-hand column of your wallet, and scroll to
How do I protect my Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin SV (BSV).
Click the tab to expand the box, and reveal more details about this process.
If you’ve already used Exodus to claim BSV, the option in the
Help menu will not be available. Don't worry though! You can still use the function from the Asset Menu.
Simply head to the Bitcoin SV (BSV) section of your wallet, and click on the three dots in the upper right corner of your wallet to reveal the Asset Menu. (If you don't see BSV in your wallet, you can enable it in Settings.) Then choose the Claim Bitcoin SV option from the Asset Menu.
- Click Claim BSV Now button
- Click the Check My Wallet Now button
Do not quit Exodus during this process!
At this point, Exodus will begin to search your wallet’s history for BSV coins. This process can take up to several minutes, and if your wallet has an extensive transaction history then you might have to practice some patience for 5–10 minutes.
Once Exodus is done searching, it will display a pop-up letting you know how much BSV can be claimed, which is the total minus the transaction fees of sending the BSV from your BCH address to your new BSV address.
- Click Continue button
If your sound is on you will hear Exodus send and receive your BCH as it adds replay protection. When replay protection is added, your BCH are momentarily sent out of your wallet and then immediately sent back to your address — no longer linked to the BSV coins. You may notice your balance, for a few seconds, go down and then back up again.
During this process, Exodus will split your BSV and deposit it straight to your wallet! After your coins are split, you will also be able to use Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV in the exchange tab of your wallet. This way you can trade your coins for any other available asset in Exodus, or use your existing funds to acquire more BCH and BSV.
- Wait For Confirmation
Exodus will now display a message that it is waiting for confirmation — this is when your newly split coins will be confirmed on each of their networks. This usually takes no more than 20 minutes and depends on how quickly new blocks are produced. Yet another chance to practice your patience!
- Click View Your BSV wallet to see your newly created Bitcoin SV wallet in Exodus!
